There are several resources in the area for workforce training and development. The Western Maryland Consortium provides workforce development services for jobseekers and employers. Jobseeker resources include job search assistance, resume development, career interest testing, skill training, and case management. Employer services include referral of applicants, customized training, financial aid for on-the-job training, recruitment, and screening assistance. Services are generally provided at no cost.
Maryland’s Industrial Training Partnership and Partnership for Workforce Quality programs work with businesses to identify training opportunities. The State of Maryland’s staff partners directly with businesses, reviews operational plans, and designs appropriate training. Companies have complete control over the programs and can modify or extend program design. Matching grants are available for skills upgrade training.

In addition to continuing education courses, HCC includes a Job Training Institute (JTI) and Career Center. Several training programs, including computers & technology, medical, and business, are available to students. Career services such as employer connections, job search assistance, and interview preparedness are an asset in training the local workforce.

Barr Construction Institute
Barr Construction Institute, the educational arm of the Associated Builders & Contractors,
is committed to developing a safe workplace and a high-performance workforce
through quality education and training. They offer craft, maintenance, and
apprenticeship training in the carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing fields.
In addition, they offer continuing education, management education, professional
development, and safety training. Construction and maintenance training is
recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship & Training,
and is accredited by the National Center for Construction Education and Research.
Pittsburgh Insitute of Aeronautics
Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics (PIA), recognized as a
premier training school for aviation maintenance, opened its
newest location at the Hagerstown Regional Airport in Spring
2011. Students will take a 16-month diploma program and
become eligible to test for the FAA’s Airframe and Powerplant
Certification test.
