Retired United States Coast Guard Captain and North Hagerstown High School Graduate Judith E. Keene to Provide Keynote Address
The Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission (EDC) will honor the local business and industrial community April 20th at Celebration of Business 2010. This event, by invitation only, will be held at the Fountain Head Country Club in Hagerstown, Maryland, beginning with a VIP Reception hosted by Keller-Stonebraker Insurance, Inc., at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner and the program.
“The annual Celebration of Business is the EDC’s opportunity to recognize and thank local companies for doing business in Washington County,” said Timothy R. Troxell, CEcD, executive director of the EDC. “Because local businesses provide good jobs for our citizens and support important events and quality of life initiatives, we always enjoy this opportunity to thank them for all they do to make Washington County a better place to live, work and play.”
The keynote speaker for the event will be retired United States Coast Guard (USCG) Captain Judith Keene. Upon graduating from North Hagerstown High School in 1977, Captain Keene entered the USCG Academy. During her 27 year career, she served in a variety of operational assignments to include becoming the 31st Commandant of Cadets at the USCG Academy. She was the first woman to be assigned to that position.
“The Economic Development Commission is very pleased that Captain Keene is joining us for Celebration of Business 2010. We look forward to her presentation and her insight on our community’s role in helping shape her successful career,” said Robert E. Ernst, II, executive vice president of Susquehanna Bank and EDC Board chair.
In addition, Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) Deputy Secretary Dominick Murray will help the EDC honor the attendees as well as more than 30 businesses who have reached milestones in their number of years of conducting business in Washington County.
