Smithsburg

A thriving farming community

Smithsburg is home to about 2,900 residents who enjoy the crisp, clean outdoors.  Many views include the apple orchards that are along the countryside.  Every year the town hosts the annual Steam and Craft show where old steam engines, gas-powered tractors and over 70 craft and flea market vendors are featured.  Smithsburg Pride Days is held every summer with a 5-K run, parade, and civil war reenactment.

History:

Smithsburg's history dates back to 1813 when the founder, Christopher ``Stuffle" Smith, bought the tract of land formerly known as ``part of Shadrack's Lot." The town was incorporated in 1846. Smithsburg played a minor role in the Civil War when the residents of the town helped care for the wounded Confederate soldiers after the battles of South Mountain and Antietam.
